Our couriers are on the road every day and they share the roads and highways with other vehicles of all sizes, motorcycles and bicycles. We have experience with sharing the road with just about everyone!
We’re also pretty interested in fitness around here. Our founder, Steve, is an avid bicyclist and several other members of the On Time Logistics family are interested in sports of various types.
Our knowledge of the road combined with our love for fitness makes sponsoring the Joe Martin Stage Race this weekend in Fayetteville a perfect fit for On Time Logistics. This is the 37th year for the amateur races and the 12th year for the National Racing Calendar (NRC) races. We hope that you check out the Joe Martin Stage Race schedule and find one of the pre-planned spectator spots around town to check out these amazing athletes.
We also know that many of you will be sharing the road with these bicyclists and want everyone to be safe. Organizers for the Joe Martin Stage Race are well aware of the potential danger for bicyclists to be on the road with motorists. The bicyclists will travel in groups with protective vehicles both in front and behind them including police and medical personnel. We encourage you to respect the bicyclists and give them plenty of space.
But what about sharing the road with bicycles every day?
Both bicyclists and motorist have a responsibility to operate safely and be conscious of each other while sharing the roadway. According to Arkansas state law, “cyclists may use any public road, street or highway in Arkansas with the exception of the freeways and other controlled-access highways. You may ride your bicycle on the sidewalks in Arkansas, except in specific cities which have enacted local ordinances that prohibit riding in the sidewalks in the business districts. (this includes Fayetteville)”
Both motorists and bicyclists should watch out for each other, follow basic traffic laws for their location (bicyclists are also required to signal!) and realize that both the motorist and the bicyclist have equal rights to the roadway.
