Thanksgiving is a day of the year many people all around the country eagerly anticipate. Good food, good laughs, and in the four days after, good opportunities.

While Black Friday is a fairly well-known tradition, Small Business Saturday, Cyber Monday, and Giving Tuesday are relatively new holidays that residents and small businesses can take advantage of.

Capitalize on Black Friday Opportunities for Local BusinessesBlack Friday

The day after Thanksgiving is an opportunity for Americans to make use of deals provided by all kinds of businesses. In the age of shopping online, Black Friday still has a strong following for those who want great deals in brick and mortar stores.

According to RetailMeNot, Black Friday remains a successful mainstay in the holiday season with a predicted 47% increase in sales during 2017 on top of 2016’s $505 per consumer. Moreover, seven out of 10 consumers will pursue deals provided by retailers this Black Friday.

Retailers will also be extending the amount of time many Black Friday deals are available to catch the 45% of possible consumers who plan on shopping for future holidays before December 1.

Small Business Saturday

A newer event that has become widely popular in the United States is Small Business Saturday. The Saturday after Thanksgiving is designed to bring communities together through celebrating locally owned small businesses.

In 2010, American Express founded Small Business Saturday to support communities around the country. According to data from the Office of Advocacy’s Small Business Profiles, 244,977 small businesses make up roughly 99% of Arkansas’s businesses.

Small businesses can also attract more consumers through using any and all platforms. According to RetailMeNot, 81% of consumers use several methods to find good deals with the primary being social media with the other being sources such as newspapers and word of mouth.

Small business owners can attract customers by preparing their websites for increased traffic and online sales. Remember to offer special deals during the holiday and also share them on social media.

Cyber Monday

Like Black Friday, Cyber Monday is an opportunity for Americans to get amazing deals on popular products purchased online. The holiday brought in a record $3.39 billion by consumers shopping online on the Monday after the Thanksgiving of 2016.

This year, that number is predicted to be much larger with 56% of consumers planning to take advantage of the holiday as opposed to 39% according to the study provided by RetailMeNot.

Small and local businesses can attract more customers by ensuring their websites are prepared for the high traffic of Cyber Monday and general holiday season. Make sure to advertise deals through social media.

Giving Tuesday

Ready to start the season of cheer and giving? Then the growing movement of Giving Tuesday is right up your alley. On the first Tuesday after Thanksgiving, give back to the community and spread the gift of giving.

Created at the Belfer Center for Innovation & Social Impact in New York City, the holiday is designed to bring together diverse groups, organizations, and communities to celebrate and encourage giving back. In 2015 alone, participating organizations and communities raised $177 million worldwide.

People interested in participating in Giving Tuesday or giving back, in general, have many options to choose from with programs like Amazon Smile. With Amazon Smile, shoppers can support their favorite participating charities by shopping on Amazon.
