When you look back at your cross-country road trips, do you remember what you had to eat? Fast food, junk food, and calories. For truck drivers, accessing healthy food options can be a challenge. Because of the reliance on fast food and gas station food, the obesity rate for truck drivers is twice as high as the rest of the nation, and with obesity comes a variety of potential health issues.

In a recent challenge, truck drivers around the nation participated in the Healthy Fleet 10 Pound Challenge, and we just want to take a moment to applaud these truck drivers and their efforts to promote a healthier lifestyle. During the challenge, the participants ate healthier foods, added a little cardio to their pit stops, and choose to cut back on smoking.

According to their website, the Healthy Fleet Challenge was created to “help the trucking industry increase the average life expectancy of a truck driver from the age of 61 and reduce driver rate of obesity from 69%.”

At On Time Logistics, we are committed to combatting obesity, assisting with healthy life choices, and providing encouragement for healthy drivers. Our monthly newsletter features different safety articles each month and those are often dedicated to tips on healthy living.

Similar to the lessons that John Lex, winner of the Healthy Fleet Challenge, learned, some On Time Logistics health tips include swapping soda for water on the road. This will cut back on the sugar that you are intaking, and help lower your blood sugar levels. Also, instead of eating a bag of chips when you are hungry, try snacking on carrots or celery. Simple changes in your diet can make a world of difference!

Having healthy drivers on the road means that there will likely be less health-related accidents. On Time Logistics consistently supports healthy drivers and a healthy community through promoting healthy eating, quality sleep patterns, and exercise.
