To be successful as a company, we rely on our team members every day to make sure that we not only provide the best service for our customers, but that we do so in a way that remains sustainable and efficient.
At On Time Logistics, we believe in acknowledging our team members when they excel, which is why we’ve offered annual awards for employees and couriers, and why we recently started offering the Star Driver Award during our monthly safety meetings.
When deciding who has earned the monthly Star Driver Award, we use a detailed matrix that Frank Edens, our fleet/safety manager, developed. The following items are taken into consideration based on consistency, timeliness, and completion:
- On time – the lowest number of late arrivals for their shift.
- Whip Around – an app that our drivers use to complete a pre- and post- shift checklist for Federal compliance..
- Fuel Price list – the lowest average cost per gallon per driver.
- Team player – when our drivers are willing to support others or to take on extra responsibilities.
- Clean truck – based on random inspections to check cleanliness of inside of trucks.
- Safe driving record – using camera feedback in all trucks to record driving behavior including speeding, harsh braking, and harsh turns (that can damage freight).
- Relay scans – bar codes scanned on each pallet prior to loading into the truck then at the delivery.
- MobileTek orders – use of app to close out orders with minimal exceptions when delivery is complete.
- Tripsheets – the proof delivery signatures and record of delivery which are used for billing and paying drivers
If there is a tie between two drivers, the last factor is idle time. Idle time affects fuel consumption and therefore our overall efficiency. We also have a weekly recognition for the least amount of idle time.
Since starting the Star Driver Award, we’ve honored four drivers:
- March – Torrance Williams
- April – Larry Simmons
- May – Aaron Baker
- June – Eduardo Soto
