As we approach the month of February, many things and events that capture our attention. Whether you are a fan of Punxsutawney Phil and Groundhog Day, or you look forward to the romance, greeting cards and gifts that accompany Valentine’s Day, the focus for most sports fans is on the NFL and its season’s culmination is the Super Bowl.

It is currently one of the most important days for the National Football League, North American football fans, grocery stores and people who like a good party. It is so important to the NFL that they spend years planning which network will show it, which city will host it, which events will accompany it, who will be the halftime entertainment, etc.

It is so important to advertisers that they pay the highest, premium price for a 15- or 30-second commercial to air during its broadcast. Why? Because it is an event that guarantees an extremely large and captive audience – in short, it is a cultural phenomenon.

Now, we know that most of you reading this article do not work for the NFL or an advertiser that is ready to air a series of spots on February 7, but we all have a ‘Super Bowl’ that drives how we work and captures our focus throughout each year.

It may be that you are driving toward goals set for a specific quarter or business cycle. Or you have an event that requires unusual focus and attention for a short period of time. For the people at On Time Logistics, it is the last quarter of every year.

Whatever your big event is each year, we encourage you to not only focus on the planning, details and contingencies, but to take some time and actually enjoy it while it happens. We  can be so driven to succeed that we miss out on the success. Do you agree?

In other words, take care of those tasks and goals if you must, just don’t miss out on the thrills of the game, the new commercials and the chicken wings! Remember, your ‘Super Bowl’ only comes around once a year.
